“In April 2017 my daughter joined this world. She is amazing and beautiful and bold already. I’m in sweet, sweet trouble. Her majestic eyes are these wide ovals that are deep brown and suck you deep into their space. I’ve found myself in a new realm of unknown. The unknown of how to embrace motherhood and to teach my daughter that there is nothing she can’t accomplish if she has faith, continues to educate herself, and believes in the power of her dreams. To teach her, I have to be an example for her.

I love space. I love homes. I love the cozy feeling of “going home.” I also love to entertain and enjoy my space with other people. And, I love when people open their homes to others and are proud to call their house their home … that’s where my dream evolved. How can I live my dream and allow my daughter to see that momma is fearfully fearless? Be bold and take a chance. And, so, Through Her Eyes Designs was birthed.”

We encourage you to take a look at Katie’s business pages on Facebook, Instagram, and even her website- WOW is all we can say!

My Mission: To evolve your space into your dreamspace!

“Space is meant to be ever-evolving and beautiful just like what nature provides to us on a seasonal basis. In the Midwest, we watch the colors change; the old falls off and new comes in and most of us Midwesterners crave these changes.”

Her work is AMAZING- so, we found out more about this talented lady and what makes her tick!

How did you get starting in interior decorating?
I’ve always enjoyed doodling and elements of design. When I moved into my first apartment I think I changed my room theme every year; I love the concept of changing your home and surroundings as you grow and develop as a person. At the time, I honestly didn’t know that being an interior decorator was a “thing.” It took several years to let a passion turn into a career.

When did you know you wanted to turn this into your career?
When I had my daughter I knew that I needed a shift in my life. She needed me but I also needed to be my own person. I wanted a balance of being a mom and a career woman. Small business ownership allowed me the opportunity. I took a plunge and it’s been fabulous ever since. I knew my personal definition of home and I wanted others to have that sense of feeling as well. One of my greatest joys is knowing the stories and life pursuits of my clients. It allows me to make their spaces into unique pictures of who they are and show their values.

What makes your small business unique?
My relationship with my clients! I value relationships and conversation. I genuinely want to know my client. If I can’t connect with the client on an intrapersonal level I doubt that I’ll be successful in making their space desirable for them. Along this journey my clients have become some of my biggest cheerleaders … that’s how I know I’m successful at my career; it’s as though this business is a team of past clients who want to see its success as much as I do.

What is your favorite piece you have ever created?
One favorite piece?! How would I decide? I could name a piece or story from each client’s home. In each redesign or remodel I try to add one unique handmade item as a surprise to the client. The greatest reaction yet was when a client realized that a hand-lettered scroll could be rotated for the seasons. Her home is a gathering home, it’s where people feel like they’re at home; the scroll represents just that.

What do you wish more people knew about owning and operating a local small business?
The hard work is worth it. You’ll develop such a greater sense of community. Even a very well-connected person will be opened to so many more stories, so many more people and you truly see how fabulous this cluster of large and surrounding small towns really are!

What is your favorite part about being located in the Quad Cities?
It’s just large enough to support many small owned businesses yet small enough that you still maintain a sense of community and connectedness.

How long have you been running your business?
One year on December 5th!

Is there anything you would like to see more of in the QC?
I feel like the QCA is developing more and more with each year passing. So many new restaurants and bars are popping up to create new vibes and places for people to congregate. It’s fabulous to see small boutique clothing stores as well. We have a wealth of professional sports as well. If you’re bored in the QCA, you’re choosing to be bored.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Interior decorating is affordable and for everyone! A budget is set by the client. People to deserve to dwell in spaces that speak to them, make them happy, and create a sense of comfort. If you need help creating that space, I’d love to meet you!
