When did you first get into magic?
I learned my first trick approximately 17 years ago when I began working in a group home for teenagers with severe behavioral challenges. It helped me keep the kids busy and my shifts ran smoother.
What inspired you to begin a self-driven career in magic?
My daughter. Around the time my daughter turned 3, my wife and I often went out to local restaurants for dinner and I found that magic really helped her to stay focused while waiting in lines or for our food to come. I knew then that I was interested in starting a career as a Family Friendly Entertainer.
Your small business is definitely unique. What do you, personally, think makes it most unique to the Quad Cities area?
My mission is to bring you and your events the kind of results that you are truly looking for. It’s about more than magic, it’s about results!
What is your favorite part about owning and operating your own small business?
My favorite part is that I get paid to do what I LOVE to do. I LOVE to make people laugh, smile or just feel really good and positive. When I perform, people forget about everything else that might be troubling them and they just enjoy the magic.
If the quad cities needed to know one thing about your locally owned business, what would it be?
Your family friendly event will have more smiles, more laughter, more excitement, more memories and more results than ever before when you include T. J. Regul, The Quad City Magician.
Why did you choose to pursue running your own business as opposed to working for someone else?
Before I became a professional magician, I had a career in the social services for over 15 years. It was very stressful and at the same time very personally rewarding. However, I realized that there was much greater earning potential and lower stress within my magic business. I can create a better life for my family that is on my own terms this way.
What is your favorite part about being located in the quad cities?
People in the Quad Cities are generally so welcoming and much more laid back than they are in the Chicago area where I am from, originally. I love the Mississippi River and all the fun outdoor activities that it offers.
How long has your business been running?
My business started a little over 5 years ago.
What are your hopes/vision of your business for the future?
I hope to perform more large-scale events in theaters and banquet halls in the Quad Cities but also expanding to other states. I want to bring the kind of results that everyone planning a family friendly event truly deserves.
Is there anything you would like to see more of in the QC?
I want to see hockey survive and thrive and I’d like to see more live music events that are well known and nationally recognized.
