Brandon Tice has been a small business owner since 2006, but has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. He started Fields of Pizza and Quad City Pizza Company and has also helped multiple friends get their own small businesses up and running. He has done consulting for a few small businesses as well, and is always striving to gain knowledge and understanding in all aspects of business.
Brandon is married to his wife, Amber, and together they have 2 adorable daughters (Allie, 8 and Emma, 5). They are members at Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island, IL. The Tice family loves spending time together and making memories through daily opportunities as well as traveling.
We had the opportunity to get to know Brandon and learn more about this awesome business!
What inspired you to open a pizzeria?
I opened my first restaurant, Fields of Pizza, back in 2006 in East Moline. I had previous restaurant experience in everything from bussing tables and washing dishes to being a chef creating featured dishes at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse in Moline. I sold out of Fields of Pizza in 2018 and founded the Quad City Pizza Company brand, which is a local “handcrafted pizza & eats” concept geared on finer quality food, great service and a fun, relaxing atmosphere.
What makes Quad City Pizza Co most unique to the Quad Cities Area?
What makes QC Pizza Co most unique to our area is our passion for the community, our guests, our food and our overall service. We strive for 5-star experiences for each guest. Not for bragging rights, but because we truly want to provide all our guests with a fantastic, memorable experience!
If the Quad Cities needed to know one thing about your business, what would it be?
The thing I would most like the Quad Cities to know about us is while we do have great food and service, we are especially all about being caring, kind and generous. Whether it’s the care our cooks put into preparing the food, the way the servers take care of their guests or when we hold fundraisers to benefit local organizations – always know that we truly care!
What is your favorite part about being located in the Quad Cities?
My favorite part about being located in the Quad Cities is I believe we truly have an incredible community here. I have seen the community come together on many occasions to help those in need and that is why we always try and do our part in helping!
What is your favorite part about owning a pizzeria?
I don’t know that I have just one favorite thing about owning a pizzeria. Some things I love are the opportunity to create jobs and be an influence to all of my employees; the opportunity to provide for my family through extremely hard work, dedication and commitment; the opportunity to give back to our community as much and as often as possible; and the opportunity to provide guests with great quality food and service!
Which pizza is your favorite?
My “favorite pizza” is always changing, but I think it is currently either our Meat Market (Sausage, Pepperoni, Real Bacon Pieces, Garlic Chicken Pieces & our House Blend Cheese) or BBQ Sauce, Ham & Pineapple (yes, I like pineapple on pizza!).
What in the world is a pizzoagie!?
..and which one is your favorite?
Our Pizzoagies (pizza hoagie sandwich) are one of our unique QC Pizza Co items. It is essentially a custom-ordered hoagie roll with your choice of sauce and toppings, then baked in our pizza oven until golden brown and bubbly. They have been very popular! My favorite Pizzoagie would be our BBQ Smokehouse (BBQ Sauce, Pulled Pork, Bacon, House Blend Cheese & Pepperjack Cheese).
How long has your business been running?
QC Pizza Co has been open since December 2017 at Bettendorf and June 2018 in Moline. Before that, I founded and owned Fields of Pizza in East Moline & Moline from 2006 to 2018.
Tell us a little about your pizza tours.
Our Pizza Tours are genuinely so fun for me to do. I would guess I have done probably 25 or 30 of them so far, with great feedback. We usually book these with local youth programs, pre-schools, grade schools, day camps, etc. What we do is show all the participants around the kitchen and prep area while explaining the tools and equipment we use. We also explain how we make our dough, pizza sauce, cheese blend, and much more, fresh every day in store. The participants also get to work together to make a few pizzas (depending on the size of the group) and, of course, enjoy the fruits of their labor once they are cooked! Is there anything you would like to see more of in the Quad City?
I would love to see even more support for local business in the Quad Cities. I believe we truly have a plethora of fantastic small businesses, but still see people wishing for large franchises to come to our area. I would love to see everyone spend the majority of their hard-earned money at small, local shops. Even though it may cost a bit more sometimes, you can be sure what you are getting is made with passion, high quality, and will support a hard-working entrepreneur and (if they have one) their family. In my case, it is helping to support myself, my wife of almost 11 years (Amber) and our 2 daughters (Allie, 8 and Emma, 6).
What are your hopes/vision of Quad City Pizza Co for the future?
My hope/vision for QC Pizza Co in the future is to continue to be a valued member of the community and be known for being kind and generous. We also want to continue to be known for being a family restaurant where everyone can enjoy their meal and experience. We would love to eventually reach the entire Quad Cities area (and beyond) with our delivery service! We also have ideas and goals for growth, improving guest experiences and possibly adding additional locations.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would just like to add that I have a very difficult time answering the question “What makes you different from all the other local options?” The reason is because the list is so long, I don’t know where to start! I don’t worry about what others are doing. Instead, I insist to my team that we do what we do the best we possibly can and let the rest sort itself out. That said, here is a small list of things I believe we excel at:
- We truly value our community and our guests. We know there are MANY choices in our area and sincerely appreciate each guest that visits us or orders from us! We also show this in the way we consistently interact with guests on our social media channels.
- We are passionate about reaching families and children. For examply, at QC Pizza Co, kids get to make their own pizzas and receive a souvenir frisbee with their Kid’s Meal!
- We offer “Pizza Tours” and “Dine To Donate” fundraisers to stay an active part of our community.
- We frequently offer special deals and offers to give back to our valued guests!
- We are sometimes able to give highly discounted, or even FREE food, to much appreciated individuals in our community (such as police officers, firefighters, military/veterans, teachers, etc.)
- We use a softer, sweeter, unique Honey-Crust which we make daily, in store.
- We use a custom cheese blend, savory sauce and fresh toppings on all of our pizzas.
- We have many, many “hand-crafted” menu items which are each unique and delicious!
