What inspired you to get into meal prepping?
As a meal prepper and certified Integrative Health Coach, eating healthy is very important to me. About four years ago, I changed my family’s eating habits and saw immediate benefits and relief from chronic illnesses my oldest daughter and I were facing. This inspired me to want to help other people do the same. During one of my coaching sessions, I had a client tell me that he wanted to make changes in what he was eating, but he worked a lot of hours and wouldn’t ever have time to meal prep. If I was willing to make the food for him, he was willing to eat healthy. It occurred to me that people want to eat better, but without the time to meal prep, it becomes impossible. I then started working for families as a personal chef, but saw an opportunity to be able to help more people by opening my own licensed meal prep business.
What sparked the specific idea behind Prep to Table?
I see how busy, rushed and stressed the majority of families are living today. I love to make food and feed people, so it only makes sense to put my hobby to good use for anyone who can’t or won’t do it themselves. The name Prep to Table came from the push of getting families back to the dinner table for family dinners, real food and quality time together.
What do you think makes your business most unique to the Quad Cities?
Prep to Table is unique, because we make food with gluten-free, organic and locally sourced ingredients. We use a lot of spices and herbs in our meals and natural sweeteners in our sweet treats, to give it delicious flavor without all the toxic, processed foods. We use biodegradable or reusable containers and avoid plastic. We also have several pick up locations and delivery options for customer convenience. Also, with every purchase made, a donation goes toward providing meals for the Child Abuse Council’s Healthy Families Program.
What is your favorite part about owning and operating a meal prepping service?
I love making food, trying new recipes, feeding people and helping my customers find healthier alternatives to the foods we all love. Feeding our bodies nutritious food is one of the greatest acts of self-care and it doesn’t have to be tasteless.
If the Quad Cities needed to know one thing about your business, what would it be?
Prep to Table wants to help you feed your busy family, so you can enjoy more time together. And again, that, with every purchase made, a donation goes toward providing meals for the Child Abuse Council’s Healthy Families Program.
Why did you choose to pursue running your own business instead of working for someone else?
I have high expectations when it comes to food. I wanted to be responsible for choosing the right ingredients and making food taste the way it should. I also have a husband and three young girls. I wanted to be able to set my own schedule and be there for my family when they need me.
What is your favorite part about being located in the Quad Cities?
Meal prepping is somewhat new to the QC and I am excited to be one of the first to help feed people convenient and quality food. There is a strong need for our community to improve the way we eat and feed our children. I love that I get to be a part of the change.
What is your personal favorite part about living in the Quad Cities?
I like that I am close to many of my family members and the sense of community support. I really feel like the QC and my customers want my business to succeed.
What are your hopes/vision of Prep to Table for the future?
I want to continue to grow and help more people eat better, while making healthy meals, sweet treats and snacks for busy families.
Is there anything you would like to see more of in the QC?
I’d like to see more people taking control of their own health and the health of their family. I’d also like to see more restaurants, stores and farmer’s markets of products from people growing and making food the right way.
Would you like to add anything else?
Thank you to everyone who has supported me and my family through the process of growing Prep to Table. Thank you to my staff and customers. I truly have the best people surrounding me!
