Hi my name is Andrew Guy I’m the Owner and operator of Gnar City Clothing. I was born and raised right here in Davenport, I live with my wife Ashley and have two children. I love traveling, my two favorite places are New York and Disney. We have been in our current shop for a little over a year and half. We specialize in screen printing and embroidery. I have one full time employee and our shop hours are 9-5 Monday through Thursday and 9-4 on Friday.

Who/what inspired you to pursue your field?
I started by pressing my own buttons in my late teens for local bands and friends. It was a way to make little extra cash or make trades with local tattoo artist for new tattoos. Then that led into tattoo shop owner asking if I was interested in learning how to screen print t-shirts. I started making shirts for friends and started my own clothing line named Gnar City. After a couple years Gnar City became the name of my business as I realized that there was more interest in me printing shirts for customers than my own clothing line.
When did you know you wanted to make a career out if it? When did you take the step to open your own business? How long have you been open?
I made the switch to running this business 4 years ago, when I was working a full-time warehouse job and putting in 40 hours a week screen printing. This will be my 6th year being officially open as a business and the 10th year anniversary of me printing overall. What really made the step easier to take into becoming a full-fledged business was buying an embroidery machine, it helped fill in the gaps in between shirt orders.
What types of customers benefit most from your products/services?
Honestly just about everybody, we deal mostly with other small to midsize local businesses. We also deal with quite a few bands from all different genres some local and some that are just passing through the area and are in need of shirts with a quick turn-around time.
What makes your business unique?
What sets us apart from other businesses is our ability to go from concept to product in a very short time, by industry standards. With a smaller team we are able to communicate quicker between us and the client which means we can streamline a lot of the processes to get you your order on time without any extra stress or complications.
What is your favorite part about being located in the Quad Cities?
Being located in the Quad Cities is great because you still have the small town feel and also the feeling of an up and coming metropolitan area. You can get everywhere you need to go in a short amount of time but can still be amazed by finding new businesses around any corner.
What is one thing you want to make sure locals know about your business?
That we offer some of the best prices in town with some of the best quality work. That when you put in an order with us from start to finish you only have to deal with one person and don’t have to worry about getting the run-around that comes with bigger shops.
What are your hopes/visions for your business for the future?
Our hopes are that we continue to grow and keep up good relations with other local businesses. Ideally a bigger shop and couple more employees down the road to help things keeping running smoother.
Are you currently running any sales or promotions?
Right now we are running a deal on single color one location shirts 50 shirts for $250.
