We were fortunate enough to get a little Q&A session with Chad!
This is what we learned:
When did you first start working on cars?
I started working on cars when I was 15-16 years old. I could never afford to pay someone, and I never wanted to. I always had the drive to learn how to work on my own stuff and it excited me. Before that, there were go-karts and mini bikes, then dirt bikes and quads. I fixed them all!
What inspired you to open your own shop?
It started off just fixing cars for friends and family and it quickly lead into another form of income!
What is your specialty?
Dirt track racing drivetrain such as racing engines, transmissions, and rear ends. I do quite a few racing transmissions and Ford nine inch gear installs. Though, my bread and butter that pays the bills and what are my everyday jobs, are automotive repairs.
What is your favorite car to work on?
I have grown to really like working on Hondas. They are extremely reliable and well thought out when it comes to repairing them.
What is your favorite part about owning and operating a shop?
My favorite part is being able to offer customers a quality repair at a truly fair rate. I don’t have the big overhead of a dealer or a big shop, so I’m able to work at a lower shop rate. I also enjoy being able to work at my own pace and offering a repair that is of my quality of standard.
If the Quad Cities needed to know one thing about your business, what would it be?
I’m a small one man shop! When you come to me, you deal with me, and me only.
Why did you choose to pursue running your own business as opposed to working for someone else?
I actually work full time for another company as diesel tech. C&R Performance is my part time job/business. I simply have pursued it because I’m very good at what I do and it has been a very enjoyable source of income that also allows me to pay for my hobbies
What is your favorite part about being located in the Quad Cities?
We have such a big customer base and the massive ability to obtain parts for repairs if need be. We also have a large performance racing community!
How long has your business been running?
I would say we have been pretty serious for at least 9 years.
What are your hopes/vision of your shop for the future?
I would love to go bigger and better. To make it my full time job and possibly employ some other great mechanics in the QC is definitely a goal of mine!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
